Project GANESH

Project GANESH was founded in 2001 by Paul Throne and Richard Stocker. After a cumulative total of over 20 trips to India over a 19 year period, both Paul and Richard wanted to return something to India in exchange for the great experiences over the years. And thus Project GANESH was born.

India is a fascinating land of stunning geography and varied traditions. Yet behind this teeming mass of apparent contradictions and variety lies one of the world's oldest cultures, a culture that still survives when many of its ancient contemporaries are nothing more than pages in a history book. This is the land of the Vedas, of the mighty Himalayas, of the patient Ganges, as well as the land that gave birth to Bhagavan Krishna, the Buddha, and a host of illumined saints and masters. It is also a land constantly re-inventing itself, applying the eternal verities to its daily life.

But as India strides towards its destiny in the 21st century, its ancient culture is in danger of being swept aside. Temples that are hundreds, even thousands, of years old are in a state of disrepair. As India's cities grow ever more congested, many village temples and shrines are left to succumb to the ravages of time. These temples, which have nourished and supported their communities over the centuries, are now in need of support themselves. Project GANESH is committed to providing assistance to temples and their surrounding villages in need and to contributing to the maintenance of India's legacy.
